Terrain Project: Red Planet - Storage Tanks & Drilling Rig WIP

Hello readers. Today I am back with some more terrain pieces for my Red Planet terrain project. The pieces I am sharing today are all made with resin sets from Armorcast.

Triple Refinery Tanks
This is a resin set made to fit 3 energy drink cans with a base and 3 can toppers. The resin base on this one curves up enough that it does not sit flat. I think I am going to need to make a larger base to glue it to to flatten it out.

There is more after the jump.

Cygnar: Thorn Light Warjack WIP

This is just a quick post to show a mini I have been painting for my Cygnar army for Warmachine. This is the character light warjack known as Thorn, which is designed to be used with the Victoria Haley warcaster.

This is still a work in progress. It is mostly done, but you can see there are some touch ups that I need to do still. Obviously I still need to finish the base as well.

Playing Card Based Initiative System

I have been toying around with the idea of writing my own game for a while now. The particular game that I am working on is an Old West skirmish level miniatures game.  I guess that would be American West to anyone on the other side of the Atlantic that might be reading this.  Anyways it is about cowboys. More specifically it is a cinematic style shootout game. The goal is to recreate hollywood's version of the Old West more than anything based on hard facts.

I wanted a system that provided a random turn order that would reflect the chaos of a Hollywood Old West gunfight. Since the game is skirmish level each side should have about 5 to 10 models. Given the number of models, I came up with a system for using playing cards to determine the turn order.

Any feedback is appreciated. The rules are listed after the jump.

Warmachine: Cygnar vs Farrow

There has been somewhat of a resurgence in popularity of Warmachine and Hordes at my local game store. This has given me a chance to play my first games since the Mark 2 rules came out a few years ago. So far I have been able to play about 3 games with my Cygnar army.

Cygnar vs. Farrow
The pictures are from a game I played against my friend Chris.  I am still getting the hang of the rules (thats my story) so Chris and his pigs carried the day without much problem. Still it was a fun game and good to get a chance to roll some dice and move some minis around again.

There is more after the jump.

Fancy New Menus

If you spend a few minutes poking around the blog here, you may notice some fancy new drop down menus. That is, if you use a real web browser instead of Microsoft Internet Explorer.  I recomend Chrome.

New Menus
Anyway, I spent an evening messing around with HTML5 and CSS to create these nifty drop down menus. That was the easy part. It was a bit tougher to get them to mesh with the existing blogger template CSS.  Luckily teh interwebz are a wonderful place where you can find almost anything. This nice lady's blog had exactly what I needed to make the last puzzle piece fit together. Check it out if you want to do something similar she has instructions and downloadable files so you won't have to reinvent the wheel like I did. :P

Now not all of the choices listed on these spiffy new menus do anything yet, but I am planning on adding new pages for the games and armies that I already have painted. The Lord of the Rings pages already exist as well as the Cygnar page on the Warmachine menu.

Have you done any special to make your blog design better? If so I would love to hear about it. Leave a comment!

Thanks for looking.

Paint Table Saturday VII

So it seems like forever (acutally since November) since I have done a Paint Table Saturday Post. Now with the holidays behind us, things are a bit less hectic and I hope to be able to get back to posting on a regular basis.  So here is my paint table from today.

Russ' Paint Table January 10,2015

So I spent one afternoon recently just clearing some stuff off the table to make more (read some) room to work.  You can still see there are general RPG figures, some Batman miniatures, Lord of the Rings stuff, some newly arrived (to the table, not new purchases) Warmachine figures and of course the general disorganization that is the trademark of my table. :P

Thanks for reading. See you next time and share pictures of your Paint Table with the group as well!
